The current protest has no content, that's why we didn't hear the speeches, that's why they avoided debate, that's why they preferred noise to talk. The possibility of EU membership will arise only in 2030. Our plan is aimed at this date. They will open it for us, we will accept it, we will sign it and we will execute it, - said the Chairman of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili at the briefing held in the legislative body.
According to him, instead of calling for strikes or drawing up petitions, in addition to self-lustration of the system, these groups of citizens should demand the chosen parties to take responsibility for the future of the country.
"In light of the events of the last few days, the main message of our people, which the population voted for in the elections, was lost in the noise of violent protests - Georgia should become a member of the European Union with dignity, peace and prosperity. It is this message that distinguishes our foreign policy from the empty, falsely emotional and noisy campaign of the opposition. During the last week, our people have not heard a single meaningful message, not a single meaningful call, not a single sensible proposal on how we can help our country to become a part of Europe without harming our national interests, the security of our people and economic prosperity. Europe's response to our events has also been lost in the noise of violence. While the opposition mouthpiece televisions persisted in covering the pathetic appeals of some biased European politicians, the messages coming from Europe's most authoritative institutions turned out to be quite different. We see that there are forces that are organized for their own mercantile interests, hiding in Europe, and there are those institutions that are not subject to conjuncture, speak the truth, protect the value of truth. We are faced with a choice, what should we strive for? To the resolutions filled with lies drawn up by some odious deputies of the European Parliament, which sometimes demand the release of Saakashvili and sometimes the acquittal of Kezerashvili, or to the decisions of such institutions as the OSCE/ODIHR election report or the verdict of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, this time to punish Kezerashvili. The picture is clear. We choose the Strasbourg court, which has been checking the decisions of the Georgian justice for decades. We select assessments that are made impartially by the OSCE mission on the parliamentary elections. Our opponents condemn everything, take the truth as a lie, and passionately support any intention that undermines the country.
We are happy for the Georgian voters who saw our choice, trusted us and supported us. We will not disappoint this trust. Until today and in the future, we will try to show our truth to the opposition voters, so that they can compare it to the dissimilar and irresponsible behavior of their chosen parties. The majority of the population chose peace, stability, the European future and the integration of the country. Unfortunately, revanchist and radical forces are not only betraying the trust of the country and the state, but also of their voters.
In the current days, we see just such a desperate attempt, maybe this last time they will be able to turn the country upside down. It didn't work out and it won't work out. We think that enough time has passed and enough events have happened for emotions to subside, life to return to the usual bed, as well as political parties and their supporters should return to the constitutional framework.
The current protest has no content. That's why we didn't hear speeches, that's why they avoided debates, that's why they preferred noise to talk. They object to what does not exist in nature. No one is able to say and name a concrete and tangible factor that the European Union offers, and the government refuses. We all know that the possibility of EU membership will arise only in 2030. Our plan is aimed at this date. The opening of negotiations is in the hands of European structures. Georgia is the most deserving and most ready to start the process. They will open it for us, we will accept it, sign it and execute it.
However, recently it became clear that we are creating artificial barriers on our way to Europe. This is confirmed by the attempt of some foreign entities, disappointed by the results of the parliamentary elections held in Georgia, not to accept the choice of the Georgian people. Despite the fact that it was clearly stated before the elections that everyone would be guided by the conclusions of the OSCE/ODIHR when evaluating the elections, we see how this conclusion is not only rejected, but even the mission of the OSCE/ODIR is attacked. This, of course, strengthens the suspicion that some subjects were acting with one plan from the beginning: either the regime of the collective "National Movement" returns to power, or the elections are disrupted and the Georgian people are deprived of their choice. We could see the signs of this even during the pre-election campaign, which took place against the background of unprecedented foreign interference", said Shalva Papuashvili.
