Every evening, every night, thousands of Georgians take to the streets to defend democracy, to defend their European future, - the Dutch MEP Thijs Reuten announced in an appeal on social networks.
According to him, "Georgian Dream" came to power through manipulated elections held under the strong influence of Russia.
"It is under the influence of Russia and extremely rich oligarchs. They decided to stop negotiations with the European Union against the will of more than 80 percent of Georgians. Even before the official results and the exit polls, there were congratulations from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. They don't even try to hide the rigging of the elections," says the European Parliamentarian.
According to him, the European Union should support the Georgian people by imposing sanctions against the leaders of "Georgian Dream" and Bidzina Ivanishvili.
"We should support the Georgians. This means sanctions against the leaders of "Georgian Dream", new, fair elections, violence against demonstrators, activists, and journalists should be stopped, the detainees should be released immediately," said the Dutch MEP.
