Armenia's Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Gnel Sanosyan, held a meeting with the Head of the European Union Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Vassilis Maragos, on October 24.
According to the ministry, Sanosyan expressed high appreciation for the EU ambassador's work in all areas of cooperation with the ministry. During the meeting, the parties discussed a range of issues of mutual interest, including collaboration with communities, energy sector development, road construction, road safety enhancement, and the advancement of the aviation sector.
Special attention was given to the "Crossroads of Peace" project, with the EU delegation head reaffirming the European Union's support for this government initiative.
Minister Sanosyan extended particular gratitude to the ambassador for the EU's support in the aviation sector. In turn, Ambassador Maragos expressed the EU’s readiness to assist in restoring infrastructure damaged by natural disasters in the Lori and Tavush regions.
Earlier, BMG reported that the Armenian government declared a disaster zone in nine communities in the Tavush and Lori regions after devastating floods caused by heavy rains on May 25-26, 2024. These communities encompass 39 settlements, home to around 113,000 people, who were affected by the catastrophe.
As a result of the natural disaster, critical infrastructure, including an interstate road and bridges, was severely damaged.
