The process started well with the granting of candidate status to Georgia, but then Georgia deviated from that path. There is still hope that with the support of democratic forces and perhaps also with the government's action, they will return to the European path, Marta Kos, the candidate nominated for the position of European Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement, said in the European Parliament, where her hearing was held.

According to her, the first prerequisite for continuing the negotiation process with Georgia is to get rid of laws that are against European values.

"If they decide to go back to the European way, I will be the first to continue the process, but certain conditions must be met." We have stopped the negotiation process to include Georgia in the European path because of laws that do not correspond to the values of the European Union. So the first prerequisite is to get rid of the laws that are against European values", said Marta Kos.

In addition, she also spoke about the importance of civil society support in Georgia.

"As for how we should support the civil society. In my opinion, the civil society is a kind of watchman of the government, an observer not only in the candidate countries, but also in the member states", said Marta Kos.
