The total number of active livestock and poultry slaughterhouses in Georgia in the III quarter of 2023 were 123, of which 17.1% were located in Kakheti region, 17.1% in Kvemo Kartli region, 14.6 percent in Imereti region, 13% in Shida Kartli region, 12.2% in SamegreloZemo Svaneti region and remained 26% in other regions, - according to the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
According to the survey, 120.3 thousand head of livestock were slaughtered in slaughterhouses in the III quarter of 2023, of which 36.7% were cattle, 52.8% - pigs and 9.3% - sheep and goats. The share of other livestock (excluding poultry) slaughtered is 1.1%.
In addition, the number of poultry slaughtered in slaughterhouses during the reporting period amounted to 3 014.7 thousand.
In total 14.9 thousand tons of meet (i.e. slaughtered weight, including poultry meat) was produced by slaughterhouses during the III quarter of 2023, of which 32.8% is beef, 37.8% – poultry, 28% – pork, 1.4% – sheep and goat meat, while the share of other
meet is not significant.
The service was provided to 10.3 thousand persons, 45.1% of which were households.
Average monthly number of persons employed in slaughterhouses equaled 1 091 persons. The average prices of the slaughter services were: 34.1 GEL per cattle, 13.8 GEL per sheep or goat and 29.0 GEL per pig.
