The Number Of Asylum Seekers From Georgia To The EU Up By 81%

The European Commission published the Sixth Report under the Visa Suspension Mechanism.

The report states that the number of asylum seekers from Georgia to EU member states increased by 81% in 2022, compared to the previous year. In total, 26,450 applications for asylum were submitted last year. 7% of the submitted applications were satisfied, while the figure stood at 5% in 2021.

As for Georgian citizens who are illegally staying in EU countries, their number increased by 87% or 11,695 amounting to 21,910 in 2022

The document also mentions that in 2022, 3,970 citizens of Georgia were refused entry to the territory of the European Union, in 2021 this number was 3,030.

The document also states that the Government of Georgia is taking measures against and prosecuting those people/groups who bring migrants into the country.
