EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas has announced that EU foreign ministers will hold an in-depth discussion on Georgia in January.
Speaking at a press conference on the European Commission’s 2026 Enlargement Report, Kallas was responding to a question from Deutsche Welle (DW) about whether the Commission still considers Georgia a functioning democracy moving towards European standards and how the potential ban on opposition parties could affect the country's EU integration prospects.
“Georgia’s EU integration process is halted, as we mentioned in the introductory remarks. We stand with the Georgian people and their choice. In January, we will have a more in-depth discussion with the Foreign Ministers on Georgia, on how best to support the people and their aspirations for EU membership,” Kallas said.
