The Parliament discussed the Draft Law on Tobacco Control for the I reading, submitted for summary consideration, and adopted it with 83 votes.
As the Chair of the Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee, Shota Berekashvili elucidated, the Draft extends the tobacco excise inquiry term to January 1, 2026, which will enable the persons concerned to equip their enterprises in line with the Law and hold the license without the suspension of their operation.
“On July 14, 2024, an amendment to the Law was introduced, establishing the requirements for tobacco manufacturers. This amendment was contingent upon the necessity of high-tech, standardized enterprises. The Government has been granted a specific period to develop a resolution outlining the aforementioned standards, which will be used to re-equip the enterprises. Given the significance of this issue, another amendment was introduced to the Law”, - he stated.
