The South Caucasus Railway CJSC will suspend ticket sales via the "Mir" card from March 30, according to the company's press service.

"Dear citizens, the correspondent bank of the South Caucasus Railway CJSC - Ameriabank, will suspend the servicing of bank cards issued under the 'Mir' system from March 30, 2024. Therefore, purchasing online tickets using cards from this system will be impossible from this date," the statement said.

Earlier, BMG reported that cards of the Russian payment system "Mir" would stop working at ATMs and POS terminals of most banks in Armenia from March 30, 2024, except for the infrastructure of VTB Bank Armenia. This is due to the fact that the operator of "Mir" cards came under US sanctions in February of this year.

The Central Bank of Armenia has stated that commercial banks in the country have the right to independently decide on cooperation with various payment systems according to their risk management strategy, including sanctions.

Moscow, as stated by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, was informed about this decision, but, according to her, the information requires additional clarification, which is already being addressed by the relevant authorities.
