The U.S. Ready to Explore New Economic Opportunities with Armenia - Sarah Morgenthau

On Tuesday, June 18, Armenian Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan met with the U.S. Department of State’s Special Representative for Commercial and Business Affairs, Sarah Morgenthau. The Ministry of Economy's press service provided details of the meeting.

Gevorg Papoyan emphasized the importance of active U.S. support in establishing long-term peace in the region and maintaining Armenia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. In response, Sarah Morgenthau expressed the U.S.'s readiness to explore new economic opportunities in relations with Armenia and to expand the scope of cooperation. She also highlighted U.S. support for the restoration of infrastructure damaged by natural disasters.

During the meeting, they discussed trade and economic cooperation between Armenia and the U.S., including the diversification of Armenian exports and considering the American continent as a new export market. Special attention was given to the development of an export strategy with the assistance of USAID, which is currently under active discussion.

The topic of hosting the next event of the "Americas Competitiveness Exchange" program in Armenia in the fall of 2024 was also raised. This event will provide a unique opportunity to showcase Armenia’s economic potential and stimulate new business connections with North and South America.

Gevorg Papoyan presented the "Crossroads of Peace" project to the delegation, highlighting its importance and principles.

Recently, political contacts between the U.S. and Armenia have significantly intensified. Following the final session of the strategic dialogue between the delegations of Armenia and the U.S. on June 11, the parties issued a joint statement.
