This year, Georgia has not imported live bees at all.
Last year, Georgia's live bee imports doubled and amounted to 14 tons worth 133,060 USD. According to Geostat, in 2023, this figure was 77,850 USD and 6.5 tons. In 2022, it was 61,450 USD and 6 tons.
The main importing country was Turkey, last year, Georgia imported live bees only from this country. In 2023, a small number of bees were also imported from Armenia and Kazakhstan.
As for exports, there have been no reports of live bees being exported from Georgia, although there was talk of this a few years ago.
Reminder, a disease is destroying bee colonies in Western Georgia. The problem, which is showing a growing trend, is caused by Tropilellaps, a parasite that severely weakens and destroys bee colonies. Beekeepers say the disease was first detected in the country in 2023 and has destroyed many bee colonies.
