As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out by the representatives of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, three persons were detained on the fact of attempt to fraudulently misappropriate a large amount of land plot by manufacturing and using forged documents. One of the detain is a foreign citizen.
Investigation determined that the accused persons had manufactured a forged power of attorney abroad, as if the owner was giving one of the accused the authority to sell the owner's land plot. On the basis of the abovementioned forged power of attorney, a fictitious purchase agreement for 2 710 000 sq.m of land plot in the Kakheti region was signed, and it was submitted to the National Agency of Public Registry for registration.
As a result of the effective implementation of investigative activities carried out by the Investigation Service, the possibility of causing a large amount of property damage to the land owner was avoided.
Investigation is underway under the Articles 362 and 19-180 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 6 to 9 years.
