In January–April 2026, Georgia collected GEL 108 million in fines for traffic violations, according to the Treasury Service of the Ministry of Finance. This is twice as much as in the same period of 2025, when the figure stood at GEL 54 million.
Of the total amount collected this year, GEL 43.3 million went to the central government budget, while GEL 65 million was transferred to local municipalities.
The sharp increase is partly linked to higher penalties introduced in recent regulatory changes. As of May 1, 2026, fines were significantly increased for a range of violations, including speeding, improper parking, seatbelt non-use, mobile phone use while driving, and dangerous maneuvers.
Among the most notable changes, fines for pedestrian sidewalk violations and improper stopping in cities increased sharply, while penalties for transit truck violations in Tbilisi and repeat dangerous driving incidents were also significantly raised.
