Georgian TV Advertising Market gained revenue of 75.2 MLN GEL in 2020, which was 7,6 million GEL or 11% up comparing to the previous year.
According to the report of the Communications Commission, despite the pandemic crisis, the growth was largely due to highly paid political advertisements. The total volume of political advertising was 13.9 million GEL.
As for the commercial advertising, TV-companies earned 11% more revenue in Q1 2020 comparing to the same period of the last year, while the revenue was 39% down in Q2. However, the dynamics changed in Q3 and TV-companies had a 7% increase from advertising, while the decrease of 3% was fixed in Q4. Overall, the revenue from the commercial advertising was 9% lower comparing to the previous year.
“In addition to the pandemic, the decline in revenues from the commercial advertising is largely due to Rustavi 2 and the Public Broadcaster, as Rustavi 2 had a decrease of 9.3 million in 2020 compared to the same period of the last year, and the public broadcaster - 0.344 million”, - the report reads.
The total advertising revenue of the broadcasters was 75.2 million GEL, this amount is distributed on the TV-channels as follows:
1. "Imedi" - advertising income of 29 million GEL, including political advertising 3.3 million;
2. "Rustavi 2" - advertising revenue of 12.8 million GEL, including political advertising 2.1 million;
3. "Mtavari" - advertising revenue of 11.1 million GEL, including political advertising 4.3 million;
4. "TV Company Pirveli" - advertising revenue of 6.2 million GEL, including political advertising 1.9 million;
5. "GDS" - advertising revenue of 2.8 million GEL, including political advertising 0.5 million;
6. "Formula" - advertising revenue of 2.3 million GEL, including political advertising 0.4 million;
7. "PosTV" - advertising revenue of 1.6 million GEL, including 0.3 million political advertising;
8. “Public Broadcaster" - advertising income of 1.1 million GEL, paid political advertising 0 GEL;
9. "Silknet" - advertising revenue of 1.4 million GEL, paid political advertising 0 GEL;
10. "Setanta Georgia" - advertising revenue of 0.76 million GEL, paid political advertising 0 GEL.
