Two people have been arrested in Marneuli Municipality on suspicion of defrauding fellow villagers of GEL 1,470,170 and $6,600, according to Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Investigators say the suspects agreed to collect cattle from villagers in exchange for payment and sell the animals abroad, with the proceeds to be distributed among the participants. However, after selling the cattle, they allegedly kept the money instead of fulfilling the agreement.
The investigation is underway under Article 180, Part 3 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which covers large-scale fraud and carries a prison sentence of six to nine years.
