Former State Security Service (SSSG) chief Geka Geladze has been appointed as Deputy Interior Minister, - Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced. Geladze stepped down as SSSG chief on September 14 after serving in the position for five months.
Kobakhidze thanked Geladze for his work, describing him as a highly professional and honest official. The Prime Minister said Geladze had made a significant contribution to ensuring state security and combating crime, including organized drug-related and corruption offenses, during his tenure both as Interior Minister and SSSG chief.
Geladze announced his resignation earlier on September 14, saying he had made the decision following consultations with the political team. His departure came less than five months after Parliament approved him as SSSG chief for a six-year term.
Geladze’s return to the Interior Ministry comes after a period of frequent leadership changes at the SSSG. Over the past year and a half, the agency has had four different chiefs. Before becoming SSSG head, Geladze served as Interior Minister.
