In April 2021, the Ukrainian State Air Traffic Services Enterprise (UkSATSE) provided air navigation services to 13,661 flights. The number of flights increased by 476.4% compared to April 2020, when quarantine restrictions were in force in Ukraine and civil aviation flights were suspended. However, the comparison with the corresponding period of the pre-crisis 2019 shows that air traffic this April is 43.4% lower.

Ukrainian airlines performed 5,062 flights (down 40.8% than in the pre-crisis April 2019), foreign airlines - 8,599 flights (down 44.9%).

Air traffic distribution by flight types in April 2021 was as follows: 1,945 domestic flights (24.6% less than in April 2019), 6,875 international flights (46.1% less), and 4,841 transit flights (45% less).

“In Ukraine, the dynamics of flight resumption is better than the average in the European countries. We, like the entire aviation industry, look forward to the introduction of a vaccination passport, the gradual liberalization of quarantine restrictions worldwide and an active summer holiday season. The European Commission's recommendation for EU countries to allow the visits of foreign tourists who have received the required dose of coronavirus vaccine with EU-approved drugs is quite optimistic,” says Andriy Yarmak, the Head of UkSATSE.

In March 2020, Ukraine suspended air services due to coronavirus lockdown. Ukraine resumed domestic flights on June 5, 2020, international flights on June 15, 2020.

According to UKRINFORM, the number of flights in the Ukrainian airspace in 2020 amounted to 142,047 flights in 2020, which is 57.6% less than in 2019.
