According to preliminary estimates by Geostat, in the second quarter of 2025 the unemployment rate in Georgia increased by 0.6 percentage points compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 14.3%. Geostat reports that unemployment among men remained unchanged at 15.9%, while among women it rose from 10.9% last year to 12.2%.
The data shows a decline in both salaried and self-employed women. Specifically, in Q2 2024, 486.6 thousand women were in salaried employment, whereas this year the figure decreased by 7.6 thousand to 479 thousand. The number of self-employed women also fell, from 139.8 thousand in Q2 2024 to 126.7 thousand in 2025 — a drop of 13.1 thousand.
As a result, the total number of employed women decreased by 20.9 thousand year-on-year, from 626.6 thousand to 605.7 thousand.
As for men, as of Q2 2025 the number of employed men stood at 760.6 thousand, an increase of 0.6 thousand compared to the same period last year. Within this, the number of salaried men decreased by 12.4 thousand to 461.5 thousand, while the number of self-employed men rose by 16.2 thousand to 295.5 thousand.
