University Quotas to Be Determined by Labor Market Survey Next Week

ზვიად გაბისონია

The labor market survey that will determine university quotas for different specialties is expected to be ready next week, Deputy Minister of Education Zviad Gabisonia announced during a session of the Education Committee in the Parliament.

Gabisonia explained that the study has been a multi-year project by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, but the Ministry of Education became involved to ensure that both private and public sector needs are analyzed. Additionally, existing research professions are being aligned with educational programs to make the data more applicable.

The survey results will allow the government to allocate quotas based on labor market demand, ensuring that the number of students admitted to each specialty corresponds to actual workforce needs. This is part of the broader education reform aimed at linking higher education to market realities.

GD Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze emphasized that previously there was no estimation of how many professionals, such as lawyers, engineers, or doctors, were needed. The labor market analysis will now inform quota distribution while keeping the total number of university students unchanged.
