“Vakijvari Trout Farm”, which has been operating on the market for many years, plans to start producing semi-finished products - the company's sales manager, Erekle Chkhartishvili, told BM.GE.
According to him, the trout farm is located in the village of Vakijvari, Guria region. The farm was purchased by the company Nikora 17 years ago and expanded it about 2 times. Currently, Vakijvari Trout Farm covers 7 hectares and employs about 50 people.
"Over 100 – 110 tons of fish are needed to operate the trout farm. We sell about 200 tons of fish per year, and we produce about 3-5 tons of caviar. Caviar is sold only in the Nikora supermarket chain. As for trout, it is also represented in chain markets, such as Carrefour, Goodwill, and others. Due to small production, we cannot export at this stage.
As for the plans, we are trying to improve the packaging of caviar and start producing semi-finished products. Such as fillets and others. We have already purchased equipment and invested over USD 20,000-30,000,” said the company’s sales manager.
According to him, in case of approval, “Vakijvari Trout Farm” semi-finished products will appear in Nikora's chain stores in about 3-4 months.
