International visitors from India to Georgia increased by 64.3% in 1H2024.
According to the National Tourism Administration, India is the eighth largest country with 57,747 visits in January-June. In the second quarter alone, visits from India increased by 78.6% y-o-y amounting to 37,102.
It should be noted that Indian tourists show great interest in protected areas in Georgia. According to PMC Research Center's Quarterly Review of Tourism, 28% of international visitors to Georgia's protected areas in the first quarter of this year were from India.
India is one of the destinations that the tourism industry is looking forward to see growth potential, but it is important to note that obtaining digital visas is a challenge for Indian tourists. Some of the travel companies told BMG that there is no logical reason for refusing visas to Indian citizens, and after appeal, the review period is 30 days.
In addition, direct flights between Georgia and India were activated. Last year, the large Indian airline Indigo started operating in Georgia, which will fly every day from August 6, 2024, in the direction of New Delhi-Tbilisi-Tbilisi-New Delhi.
