U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen said the situation in Georgia “is getting increasingly dire.”
“We’re all watching with great concern the deteriorating political situation,” the Senator continued.
“We’ve had a longstanding commitment to the Georgian people on this committee. I think we’re all watching with great concern the deteriorating political situation.
We’re seeing thousands of people who have been in the streets for the last seven days to protest Georgian Dream’s decision to suspend EU accession talks.
I think it’s important for us to send a message that there is bipartisan consensus. And the Senate and in Congress on this issue with respect to Georgia and that we are not going to tolerate without taking action, the gross abuse of human rights that’s going on in the country. I hope the prime minister and the ruling party get that message,” she stated.
