Soso Pkhakadze, Vice President of Wissol Group, emphasized that the company operates responsibly and within the law. Speaking to TV Pirveli, he stressed that business is the main driver of economic growth and any discussions should be carried out constructively.

“Everything is very normal and well. We conduct business properly, fairly, and within legal frameworks. We have always done so and will continue to do so. I see no problems. Business is what drives the economy, and without a strong economy, no country can succeed,” Pkhakadze said.

He also addressed questions regarding a January 21 meeting at the Government Administration with supermarket representatives and the Price Commission on high product prices. Pkhakadze clarified that the meeting was not a summons, but a constructive discussion. “This was a very constructive meeting, and we shared a few words on the topic. The issue has now moved to Parliament, where I am confident there will be professional and constructive deliberations. I do not see any complications,” he said.

The discussion comes amid government scrutiny of food prices. Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze previously noted on December 24, 2025, that the large gap between European and Georgian food prices is largely driven by distribution companies and supermarkets, which add an average markup of 86% from border to shelf. Following this, the State Security Service began an investigation into food prices, and a government coordination commission was established on January 5, 2026, to monitor prices of food, medicine, and fuel. Additionally, Parliament formed a temporary investigative commission on prices, which will hold its first meeting on February 11.
