"We have NGOs that are engaged in sabotage against Georgia," said Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili at today's press conference.
According to him, the NGOs themselves are the organizers of protests that paralyze the streets and then go on television and complain about the problems caused by the inconvenience.
"This particular NGO [Nino Evgenidze] is itself the organizer of actions that block the street. That is, she herself creates inconveniences and then goes on television and says that economic problems may arise because of these inconveniences. So she creates the problem and then complains about it. She brought in the foreign ministers. She organized an anti-government rally and made them applaud the people who were rallying against their democratically elected government. With this act, they intervened directly in our heart and soul, in our sovereignty, in our independence.
This organization itself causes and creates some agitation and problems and then goes out and complains about it. Then they come and blame the government. ... We have NGOs that are engaged in sabotage against Georgia," said Shalva Papuashvili.
According to him, since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war, NGOs seem to have completely lost their Georgianness, running around demanding sanctions against Georgia as if it were normal.
"These are the descendants of the people who in the early days went to the capitals of different countries and demanded that they send troops to eliminate their rivals. These are the descendants of the people who, during the Soviet Union, ran to Moscow to denounce their rivals. They have now replaced Moscow with Brussels and other cities.
These are the people who falsely slandered Georgia, that there were sanctions evasions taking place in Georgia. All these NGOs were involved [in the campaign], led by Elene Khoshtaria, that Georgia was circumventing the sanctions and they were asking the US to impose sanctions. Well, what is this called if not treason against one's own country? Can you imagine that it's gotten to the point where a certain group of NGOs just walk around like that and then they're asking what's the matter with foreign influence. Will any Georgian call for sanctions against their own country? How is this compatible with patriotism and love for the country?" said Papuashvili.
