Revaz Vashakidze, founder of poultry product company Chirina, stated that the prices of their products have not increased. He made the remarks to journalists before a meeting between producers and the government’s Prices Commission.
The Prices Commission is currently meeting with manufacturers following earlier discussions with supermarkets and distribution networks regarding high product prices. Vashakidze emphasized that any suspected cartel practices should be investigated by the relevant authorities.
He explained that Georgia produces only a limited amount of goods and is largely dependent on imports. Price increases are influenced by currency fluctuations and other factors, but in Chirina’s case, product prices have remained stable.
The government’s Coordinating Commission on Food Prices, chaired by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, began meetings on this issue on January 20. Following sessions with supermarkets and inspections by state authorities, the Commission is continuing discussions with distributors to address pricing concerns.
