Coffee imports to Georgia got expensive by 56% in March. The reason is the rising dynamics of coffee prices on the global market, which have been observed for the past few months.
The rise in product prices on global markets has already been reflected in the Georgian market, where companies have already adjusted product prices twice. Luka Shalikashvili, sales manager of the company "Mondo", says that coffee imports have risen by 30-40% in the past 1 year, so prices have also increased in the local market. According to his assessment, the increase was moderate so that consumers were not affected.
“We import raw materials from 45 different plantations. Our main imports are from leading producing countries, such as Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, and Vietnam - this allows us to ensure high quality and price flexibility, despite the rather unstable situation on the global market today. We had to increase prices, but moderately, despite the increase in raw material prices, we increased the cost of products on the Georgian market by 10-15% and maintained prices for basic products at such a level that we could offer loyal consumers high-quality products and acceptable prices.
The cost of imports has increased by 30-40% over the past year, which is due to climate change in producing countries, as well as increased logistics costs, as well as a shortage of raw materials on the global market and, of course, currency fluctuations,” said Luka Shalikashvili, Sales Manager of Mondo.
