Davit Narmania, Chairman of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) declares that the energy exchange is ready for opening, although external factors remain a challenge.
"All normative acts related to the opening of the energy exchange have been completed, trial trades have been conducted, the platform is ready, the system is ready for market opening, however, external risks have not slowed down.
As the minister said, gradual opening is planned. I think that in the case of turbulent geopolitical conditions, a gradual opening will be profitable, it will ensure the sector from risks, and the same must be done here just as it was done in many different European countries", Narmania said.
The full operation of the energy exchange in Georgia was supposed to start on July 1, 2021, although its opening was postponed 6 times. The opening of the market is planned for July 1, 2024.
