Sulkhan Tamazashvili, recently appointed as Georgia’s new Interior Minister, previously served as head of the Adjara government and held various senior positions in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, including Director of the Tbilisi Police Department from 2021 to 2025.

According to his latest asset declaration (filed in November of last year and reflecting data from 2024), Tamazashvili owns inherited property in the village of Kvemo Sameba, Kobuleti municipality. This includes a 2,500 sq. m residential house and a 2,498 sq. m land plot, of which he holds a 50% share. His wife also inherited a country house in Tsavkisi in 2006.

In addition, Tamazashvili purchased a 74 sq. m apartment in Tbilisi in 2011 for 50,000 GEL. The declaration also shows modest cash holdings: 5,750 GEL on his salary card, 700 GEL for his wife, and 450 GEL for his son.

In terms of income, he earned 105,206 GEL in 2024 as Director of the Tbilisi Police Department, slightly higher than the 98,892 GEL received in 2023. His wife, employed at the Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau, earned 5,614 GEL for part of the reported period. The declaration also lists a 60,000 GEL consumer loan, of which nearly 20,000 GEL was repaid during the reporting year.

It is also notable that the United Kingdom sanctioned Tamazashvili in December 2024 alongside other senior Georgian Interior Ministry officials. Despite this, he was later awarded the Order of Honour by President Mikheil Kavelashvili.
