In 7M2023, wheat and meslin exports increased in Georgia. According to official statistics, 93,028 tons of wheat worth USD 26 million 571 thousand entered the country.
The exports of wheat decreased last year. The reason was the export duty tax imposed by Russia on the wheat, which made the grain imports unprofitable.
According to Geostat, Russia is still the main importing country of wheat, from which 91,543 tons of wheat worth USD 26 million was imported. As a result, the importing volume increased by 89.6% annually.
As of 7 months, the second importing country of wheat is Ukraine. The volume of wheat purchased from this market is small and amounted to 1,484 tons, the value of which was USD 515,000.
During this period, we also bought a small amount of wheat from Germany and Austria.
As for flour imports, the value of flour imported in January-July decreased by 25.6%, although the volumes remained almost the same. The decrease was only 0.9%. This means that flour has become cheaper in the importing market compared to 7 months of last year.
