Wheat harvest is growing in Georgia, - according to the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat). As of the document, In 2021 the harvest was 136 thousand tons, which is 34 thousand tons or 33% more compared to the previous year.
The report shows that the increase in wheat harvest was mainly related to the harvest increase in the region of Kakheti last year.
If in 2020, 78 thousand tons of wheat were harvested in Kakheti, in 2021 the harvest increased to 100 thousand tons.
Despite the increase, local production is not enough to meet demand. In 2021, the country imported 482 thousand tons of wheat, of which more than 95% accounted for Russian.
According to Geostat, wheat production is growing in Georgia:
In 2018 - 107 thousand tons;
In 2019 - 101 thousand tons;
In 2020 - 102 thousand tons;
In 2021 - 136 thousand tons.
According to the regions, the largest wheat harvest is in Kakheti and amounts to 100 thousand tons. Kvemo Kartli is on the second place with 14 thousand tons and Shida Kartli is on the third place with 10.4 thousand tons.
