Wheat Imports Down By 21.8% In 10M2021

Georgia purchased 318,657 tons of wheat and muslin worth $ 78.6 million in 10M2021, which is 10.9% less in value compared to the same period last year, while the decrease in the volume of goods is 21.8%.

Russia has been the main supplier of wheat to Georgia for years, but imports are down due to the increase of import tax on wheat.

According to official statistics, Georgia spent USD 88.2 million on importing 407,605 tons of wheat from Russia in 10 months last year, while this year Georgia spent USD 73.1 million on importing 291,605 tons of wheat.

As for other countries, 24,355 tons of wheat worth USD 4.6 million were imported from the US during the reporting period; Kazakhstan - 2,000 tons, worth of USD 569 thousand; Armenia - 474.4 tons, worth of USD 121.3 thousand; Austria – 44 tons, worth of USD 49.5 thousand; Turkey - 71 tons, worth of USD 40.2 thousand; Greece - 43 tons, worth of USD 38.8 thousand; Slovakia – 40 tons, worth of USD 28.2 thousand, Ukraine – 20 tons, worth of USD 12.3 thousand; France - 3 tons, worth of USD 4.3 thousand, and Germany - 0.6 tons of wheat, worth of USD 1 000.

In parallel with the reduction of wheat, the import of wheat flour increased in 10M2021. In January-October, Georgia imported 22,451.86 tons of flour worth USD 6.8 million, which is 167.9% more than last year and 146.9% higher in volume.

Russia is still the main import market and 21.7 tons wheat flour worth of USD 6.5 million were imported during this period. Turkey - 230 tons, worth of USD 107.6 thousand; Italy - 85 tons , worth of USD 71.1 thousand; Ukraine - 170 tons worth of USD 52.2 thousand; Lithuania - 167.2 tons worth USD 47.6 thousand; Austria - 44 tons , worth of USD 28.7 thousand; France - 10.9 tons, worth of USD 12.7 thousand Ireland - 20 tons of flour worth USD 10.1 thousand.
