Beso Namchavadze, economist of Transparency International Georgia declares, that when only 30% of citizens are fully vaccinated, economic growth of 6% for 2022 is doubtful.
Namchavadze names the low rate of vaccination as the reason. Against the background of growing infection, it is not ruled out that the government will have to impose restrictions, which will hinder economic activity.
“Economic growth of 6% generally is not high, but amid the pandemic, when only 30% of citizens is fully vaccinated in Georgia, it is very doubtful Georgia to reach economic growth of 6%. If there are not COIVD-related restrictions in the country, Georgia may reach 6% economic growth, but in the event of a high prevalence of the virus, it will be impossible. Whether we reach 6% economic growth next year depends on the level of vaccination," - Namchavadze said.
As of the draft budget for 2020, the economy will grow by 6% in 2022.
