Geostat with the support of the UN WOMEN, has prepared a statistical publication "Women and Men in Georgia 2020".
According to the report, the number of women working in the business sector in Georgia totals 313 thousand, while men - 444 thousand. As for salaries, women’s average salary amounts to 63% of the men’s average salary.
According to 2019 data, the number of men starting a business is twice higher comparing to the women’s number, which is about 35% of registered business owners in Georgia.
The share of female owners in the trade sector is 40%, which in turn is the largest sector of the economy. A relatively small number of women business owners are found in the mining industry, construction, transport and warehousing, as well as agriculture.
On the other hand, the number of female owners is much higher than the number of male owners in the following sectors: education, health, social services and others.
According to the same publication, men are the leaders in Georgia in terms of gendered assets. Research shows that men own and dispose of a large portion of almost all types of assets, such as real estate, land, and large appliances. Gender disproportion in asset ownership is more clear in the rural areas.
