At the Yerevan Council of Elders meeting held on June 3, the program for the construction of the Achapnyak metro station was discussed.
It was reported that the project is included in the agenda of the State Investment Committee meeting and is expected to be implemented.
"The preliminary inspection agreement has been signed, and we expect the results within two months. After that, a comprehensive inspection will be conducted," stated the municipality.
Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan instructed to create a clear timeline for the completion of the inspection and to announce a tender for the station's construction.
In early March 2022, the Armenian government allocated 1.1 billion drams ($2.8 million) for the design work of the Achapnyak metro station. This station was partially constructed during Soviet times: a tunnel was laid from the Barekamutyun (Friendship) metro station towards the Hrazdan Gorge.
At the end of November 2021, it was reported that the leading Russian company Metrogiprotrans had won the tender announced by the Yerevan municipality for the design of the Achapnyak metro station in the eponymous district of the Armenian capital.
The initial project envisaged the construction of a bridge over the Hrazdan River exclusively for the metro, but Metrogiprotrans proposed adding a second level for cars and pedestrians.
Valery Abramson, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Metrogiprotrans, also proposed a $500 million metro development project to the Armenian government.
