Last week, an event organized by the company Askaneli was held in Monaco to promote Georgian wine. BMG asked wine industry experts and field professionals to assess Georgian wine and share their thoughts and recommendations. One of them was Mr. Egon Müller IV, one of the most influential winemakers in the world.

"You [Georgians] have a unique tradition. You have unique wines that are not comparable to anything else.

I remember my first time tasting Georgian wines. My first Russian importer was Georgian. And he took me to to a Georgian restaurant when I visited Russia for the first or second time. We went through all the Georgian dishes and Georgian wines. That was 25 years ago. When I compare this memory to the wines I taste today, I can see that there's a huge gap in quality - a positive one.

I think there's probably no other country where in the last 25 years, things have developed so quickly as they did in Georgia. The question is, can you bring it to the people, can you tell it to the people that you have a completely new quality of different wines and a truly unique story, unparalleled history," - Müller said.

Egon Müller IV (born 20 August 1959), is a German winemaker and owner of the wine producer Weingut Egon Müller, Scharzhof, located just outside Wiltingen. The Egon Müller estate has been in the hands of the Müller family since 1797. In the Mosel's steep, slate vineyards, the winemaking master Egon Müller makes breathtaking Rieslings. The estate owns 8.3 of the 28 hectares of the famous Scharzhofberg vineyard in Germany's Mosel-Saar-Ruwer region. The family exploits their single-vineyard holding to the fullest and consequently is ranked among the region's top wine producers. These wines are taut and racy, with dazzling fruit; they're severely mineral and have an endless finish.
