Levan Vepkhvadze, Executive Director of the Business Association of Georgia, agrees with the demand of retail chains that lifting restrictions should occur on December 15 and not on December 24.

"If stores open on December 24, it will have the same effect as it did on Black Friday," he told Business Morning. As he noted, companies can manage customer flows, and it is possible to devise a scheme that guarantees that a pandemic will not explode.

"The big problem is that in the retail sector, retail chains have been issuing cash to buy imported products, and that's when the government was telling them not to close. How long will the restrictions last? Restrictions are not the solution. We will not be able to restrict companies from operating for a year. Coexisting with coronavirus is inevitable, and businesses must continue to do so," Vepkhvadze said.
