The adult, able-bodied population are adapted to poverty, unemployment and inactivity under the current social policy which is catastrophic and alarming, - Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said before the government meeting.
According to him, the Georgian government will present a new social policy in the coming weeks on how to replace the “faulty system with a better one”. PM stressed the need for “robust actions.”
"In fact, within the existing social policy, we have accustomed the able-bodied adult population to unemployment, poverty and inactivity. Today, a able-bodied, socially vulnerable citizen is not motivated to start working because the state will remove social assistance. This is a disaster and this is disturbing. The government must take bold and effective steps, "Irakli Gharibashvili said.
“We have to create a new program offering jobs to able-bodied citizens. We can create such jobs for thousands and tens of thousands for each city and municipality,” PM stated.
According to Garibashvili, Vice Prime Minister Levan Davitashvili will lead the working group on the said policy.
