Georgia’s Environmental Supervision Department identified 112 cases of illegal forest use between July 1 and July 31, 2026.
According to the agency, 67 cases involved illegal timber extraction and transportation, while 45 cases were related to violations of technical regulations and illegal activities by sawmills.
Fifteen of the detected violations contained signs of criminal offenses, and the relevant materials were forwarded to law enforcement agencies for further action. During July, authorities sealed five unregistered sawmills and confiscated nearly 480 cubic meters of illegally obtained timber.
By region, the highest number of violations was recorded in Adjara with 27 cases, followed by Imereti with 20, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti with 18, and Kakheti with 15 cases. Other regions also reported violations, including Samtskhe-Javakheti (9), Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti (8), and Kvemo Kartli (6).
The Environmental Supervision Department said that a total of 1,026 illegal forest use cases have been detected nationwide in the first seven months of 2026, while 42 illegal sawmills have been sealed. The agency noted that stricter sanctions and the use of modern technologies have contributed to a declining trend in illegal logging in recent years.
