As of October 2, 147,300 tons of grapes have been processed in Georgia’s Kakheti region, including 145,800 tons (99%) of high- and medium-quality grapes and 1,500 tons (1%) of unripe or low-quality grapes, according to the National Wine Agency.
A total of 10,600 grape growers have delivered their harvest. Of the grapes processed, up to 80,000 tons were Saperavi, up to 57,600 tons were Rkatsiteli, and the remainder consisted of other grape varieties. The total harvest is forecast at up to 320,000 tons.
To ensure an organized harvest and full sale of the crop, the Georgian government has decided that all growers will be able to deliver their grapes if excess supply occurs. The Harvest Management Company is accepting grapes from individuals in Kakheti under established conditions.
For Saperavi, the price is GEL 1.50 per kg for grapes with at least 20% sugar content, GEL 1.00 for 16–20%, and GEL 0.50 for below 16%. For Rkatsiteli and other wine grapes, the price is GEL 1.30 per kg for at least 19% sugar content, GEL 0.90 for 16–19%, and GEL 0.50 for below 16%. The grape delivery process is coordinated by the harvest headquarters in Gurjaani.
