A total of 682 tonnes of Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli grapes have been processed in Georgia’s Racha region, according to the National Wine Agency. The projected grape harvest in Racha-Lechkhumi this year is around 3,000 tonnes.
The government is providing a subsidy of GEL 4 per kilogram for both grape varieties to encourage private sector participation and ensure an organized harvest. Eligible wine companies must purchase and process at least three tonnes of grapes grown in the Khvanchkara microzone and pay growers at least GEL 8 per kilogram.
To protect the quality and authenticity of the Khvanchkara and Racha wines, ampelographers are monitoring grapes at collection points. Checkpoints have also been established at regional entrances to prevent grapes from other municipalities from being brought in and mixed with local varieties.
A harvest coordination headquarters is operating in Ambrolauri to oversee the 2026 harvest. Meanwhile, harvesting continues in Kakheti, where nearly 273,000 tonnes of grapes had been processed as of October 14.
