Up to 12,400 tons of grapes have been processed in Georgia’s Kakheti region, according to the National Wine Agency. The processed grapes include 6,800 tons of Saperavi, 1,700 tons of Rkatsiteli and grapes of other varieties.
Around 400 wine companies are currently registered with the harvest coordination headquarters and will gradually join the grape intake process. This year’s grape harvest is forecast at around 320,000 tons.
To ensure an organized harvest and full sale of the crop, the government has decided that, in the event of surplus production, all grape growers will have the opportunity to sell their grapes. For this purpose, the Harvest Management Company will purchase grapes from individuals in Kakheti under established conditions.
The price for undamaged, standard-quality Saperavi with a sugar content of at least 21% is set at GEL 1.50 per kg. Saperavi with 17–21% sugar content or partial damage will be purchased for GEL 0.90, while grapes with sugar content below 17% or damaged grapes will be priced at GEL 0.30. For other permitted grape varieties, the price is GEL 1.30 for undamaged grapes with at least 20% sugar content, GEL 0.80 for 17–20% sugar content, and GEL 0.30 for less than 17%. The harvest coordination headquarters in Gurjaani is overseeing the grape intake process.
