Nearly 7,000 winegrowers in Kakheti have successfully gathered their grape harvest. Of the 100,000 tonnes of grapes processed to date, up to 70,000 tonnes are of exceptional quality and condition, with unripe or poor-grade fruit accounting for a mere 0.7% of the total yield, according to figures released by the National Wine Agency.
The Agency reports that Rtveli (the grape harvest) in Kakheti has reached its peak, with nearly 14,000 tonnes of grapes processed in the last 24 hours alone.
The state-owned enterprise Harvest Management Company is receiving grapes from local viticulturists across 22 collection points.
To ensure an organised harvest and guarantee the full sale of the crop, government measures ensure every winegrower can sell their yield, even in the event of a surplus. To this end, LLC Harvest Management Company is purchasing grapes harvested in Kakheti from private individuals under the following structured price conditions:
Saperavi:
Sugar content of not less than 20%: 1.50 GEL per kg
Sugar content between 16% and 20%: 1.00 GEL per kg
Sugar content under 16%: 50 tetri per kg
Rkatsiteli and other wine grapes:
Sugar content of not less than 19%: 1.30 GEL per kg
Sugar content between 16% and 19%: 90 tetri per kg
Sugar content under 16%: 50 tetri per kg
