Banks operating in Georgia recorded a combined profit of 894 million GEL in the first quarter of 2026, according to financial statements submitted to the National Bank of Georgia.
Sector-wide profit grew by 19.5% year-on-year, an increase of 146 million GEL. Out of 19 banks, 15 ended the quarter with a profit, while 4 reported losses.
Bank of Georgia posted the highest profit at 447.5 million GEL, up 15% year-on-year. TBC Bank ranked second with 330 million GEL (+12%), followed by Liberty Bank with 32.4 million GEL, a 9% annual increase. In April 2026, Basisbank signed an agreement to acquire Liberty Bank, with a full merger expected within one year. Basisbank itself recorded 28.2 million GEL in profit during the first quarter.
Among loss-making institutions were Paysera Bank, Hash Bank, Silk Bank, and VTB Bank Georgia. The largest loss - 6.2 million GEL - was reported by Silk Bank in Q1 2026.
