418 Cases of Illegal Logging and Transportation Recorded in Georgia in 2025

The National Forestry Agency reports that 418 cases of illegal logging and transportation were detected across Georgia between January and August 2025.

According to the agency, 46 violations were identified in August alone, resulting in the seizure of about 158 cubic meters of timber, which was placed in the agency’s “business yards.”

The regional breakdown of illegal activities from January to August shows the following regions:

  • Imereti – 1 case
  • Samtskhe-Javakheti – 7 cases
  • Guria – 13 cases
  • Kvemo Kartli – 7 cases
  • Kakheti – 10 cases
  • Mtskheta-Mtianeti – 1 case
  • Shida Kartli – 5 cases
  • Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti – 2 cases

In addition to illegal logging, 8 cases of unlawful seizure of State Forest Fund land were revealed in August: 1 case in Samtskhe-Javakheti, 1 in Kvemo Kartli, 5 in Shida Kartli, and 1 in Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti.

Overall, from January to August 2025, the agency identified 54 cases of illegal land seizure, while the total volume of seized illegal timber reached 1,093 cubic meters.

The Forestry Agency noted that monitoring efforts and stricter controls remain ongoing to curb illegal use of forest resources.
