Georgia’s National Forestry Agency identified 56 violations related to forest law enforcement in May 2026, including 45 cases of illegal logging and timber transport, according to official data.
Authorities seized around 45 cubic meters of illegally harvested firewood and construction timber, which was later stored in designated facilities for further processing.
Regionally, the highest number of violations was recorded in Kvemo Kartli (18 cases), followed by Guria (7), Imereti (5), Samtskhe-Javakheti (5), Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti (4), Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti (4), and one case each in Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Shida Kartli.
The agency noted that two cases show signs of criminal activity and were forwarded to law enforcement for further investigation. Additionally, 11 cases of illegal occupation of state forest land were detected during the same period. From January to May 2026, a total of 319 violations were recorded nationwide.
