A government meeting was held under the leadership of the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili.

According to the information of the government administration, the members of the Cabinet of Ministers discussed 21 issues included in the agenda.

"At the meeting, they discussed the draft resolution of the Government of Georgia - "Approving the National Action Plan for the Protection of Human Rights 2024-2026".

The process of developing the document was coordinated by the administration of the Government of Georgia with the support of international organizations. An important place in the action plan is the strengthening of institutional democracy; ensuring equal enjoyment of civil, political, social, cultural and economic rights; Strengthening the policy of equality and caring for citizens affected by the occupation.

By approving the mentioned document, the Government of Georgia once again confirms its commitment to the protection of human rights and basic freedoms, which, in turn, implies the consistent and continuous conduct of a systematic and long-term policy of human rights protection.The members of the government also discussed the draft law, according to which all institutions providing services with assisted reproductive technologies will be obliged to reflect information on reproduction-related activities in a unified national register.

The purpose of the change is the traceability of used tissues, cells, embryos, data about them and materials in contact. As of today, 19 institutions provide services with assisted reproductive technologies. The news comes into force from January 2024. It should be noted that the implementation of the unified national register of activities related to reproduction complies with the requirements of the Association Agreement with the European Union.

The meeting also discussed the project of development and promotion of two wind power plants and one solar power plant. One of the wind power plant projects will be implemented in the Imereti region, the estimated installed capacity of which is 103.5 megawatts, and the output will reach 362 million kWh. The amount of investment required for the project is 130 million US dollars. As for the second wind power plant, which is planned to be built in Shida Kartli region, in Kareli municipality, its installed capacity is 43.4 MW, output is 148 million kWh, and the amount of investment is 25.25 million US dollars. In addition, USD 4.797 million will be invested in the construction of a 7.8 MW solar power plant in Terjola Municipality, Imereti region, with an estimated output of 10.295 million kWh. At this stage, the procedures provided for by the legislation of the technical-economic study and studies of all three projects are underway.

At today's meeting, they also discussed and supported the draft amendments to the "Code of Administrative Offenses" and the Law "On Weapons" of Georgia, the purpose of which is to increase the effectiveness of the fight against poaching. The mentioned projects define the regulation of fishing gear and the corresponding responsibilities for violation of the established rules. The fight against poaching and the development of an adequate system of legal responsibility for illegal actions are part of the state policy of protecting and preserving the country's biodiversity.

In addition, the conversation touched on the draft law of Georgia "On the creation and management of the Guria National Park", according to which a new protected area - Guria National Park - will be created in the Guria region, on the territory of Chokhatauri and Ozurgeti municipalities, covering an area of 15,310 ha.

In order to protect unique natural monuments, preserve biodiversity, and at the same time ensure the sustainable development of ecotourism, the state is actively working in the direction of expanding protected areas.

Also, according to the decision of the Prime Minister of Georgia, the days from January 3 to January 5, 2024 were determined as a holiday for those employed in administrative bodies. Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili has already signed the relevant resolution.

The administrative body shall determine the services/employees under its authority/in its system, to whom this resolution shall not apply, if the performance of their functions is an urgent necessity for the implementation of state power and the normal functioning of society.

The resolution does not apply to the financial obligations to be fulfilled before the persons subject to the supervision of the National Bank of Georgia, as well as to the activities related to the state purchases provided by the Law of Georgia "On State Procurements", the information says.
