Renovation of Abastumani, a small town and climatic spa in south-western Georgia's Samtskhe-Javakheti region, will be “fully completed” in 2025, Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili said on Thursday during his visit to the location to inspect works on its infrastructure.

Inspecting the efforts together with Infrastructure Minister Irakli Karseladze, the Ministry of Economy cited Davitashvili as saying most of the construction works had been completed, with surface works on objects under renovation set to start in the “near future”.

"The operation of the main infrastructure and hotels will begin at the end of next year, and in the 2025 season the resort will be completely ready to host both local and international tourists, in a fully renovated form, in accordance with modern standards and [with] taking high ecological requirements into account", he said.

The ministers visited the sites of Rooms, Hilton and Paragraph hotels and inspected other infrastructural works that include renovation of “green and blue corridors” of the town for creation of ecological connections within the resort and modernisation of existing artificial structures on the Otskhe River, setting up of pedestrian and bicycle paths as well as recreational and resting places, restoration of location’s central road and other facilities.

The rehabilitation of the Baghdati-Abastumani road and construction of the Abastumani bypass road is also in “active phase”, the Ministry said.
