The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Davit Songhulashvili, has held a meeting with representatives of agro-food exporting companies.

According to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, the Minister discussed expanding the export of Georgian agro-food products, securing access to new markets, and developing trade relations.

The Ministry highlighted a growing interest in Georgian agro-food products on international markets. Middle Eastern countries, including Jordan, Algeria, and Saudi Arabia, have expressed strong interest in importing small livestock. Meanwhile, there is a steady demand in the Belarusian market for non-alcoholic beverages, almonds, and hazelnuts. Furthermore, Central Asian nations, namely Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan, have shown particular interest in Georgian soft drinks, hazelnuts, walnuts, almonds, and citrus fruits. This interest plays a vital role in advancing the Georgian agro-food sector, diversifying export markets, and driving national economic growth.

“One of the primary objectives of our visits to Central Asian countries is to help tap into new markets for Georgian agro-food products and expand our export capabilities. This is precisely why we must gather firsthand data from the private sector on the export potential of specific products and the barriers firms face when entering these markets. This insight will enable us to deploy state resources and support mechanisms with maximum efficiency, offering genuine assistance to businesses as they explore and establish themselves in new markets,” Davit Songhulashvili stated.

To ensure effective cooperation and timely coordination, the Minister proposed creating an Agro-Food Exporters’ Council. Meeting quarterly, the council will serve as a platform for regular dialogue between the state and the private sector.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, was also attended by Deputy Minister Lasha Dolidze and heads of relevant departments within the Ministry.
