According to the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat), the share of agriculture, forestry, and fishing in the country’s economy declined to 5.9% in 2025, continuing a multi-year downward trend. The sector accounted for 7.6% of GDP in 2022, dropping to 6.9% in 2023 and 6.3% in 2024.
Despite the shrinking share in GDP, the sector itself continues to grow in absolute terms. In 2025, total output reached 8.6 billion GEL, up 6.4% year-on-year, while value added rose to 5.4 billion GEL. Agricultural output alone stood at 8.38 billion GEL, about 550 million GEL higher than in 2024.
Crop production remained the largest segment, making up 49% of total agricultural output, followed by livestock at 44%, and agricultural services at 7%. Geostat notes that while production volumes are increasing, faster growth in other sectors is reducing agriculture’s overall weight in the economy.
The data also shows agriculture’s role in household incomes is declining, falling to 4.3% in 2025 from 6.5% in 2022. At the same time, rural population share decreased to 37.8%, reflecting ongoing urbanization and the expanding dominance of services and other industries in Georgia’s economic structure.
