All Measures Will Be Taken to Stabilize Inflation – Kobakhidze

თურნავა კობახიძე

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said the government is working with the National Bank and other institutions to stabilize inflation and keep it close to the 3% target. He stressed that controlling inflation remains a key policy priority.

Responding to questions about rising food prices and ongoing investigations into pricing structures, Kobakhidze referred to a parliamentary commission report, saying it confirmed structural problems in supply chains that increase final consumer prices. The government, he added, agrees with the findings and is working on solutions.

According to Kobakhidze, addressing these issues involves shortening supply chains and reducing markups, alongside coordinated action with the National Bank to manage inflationary pressures. He said inflation should neither significantly exceed nor fall below the target level, as both scenarios can negatively affect economic activity.

Official data shows inflation reached a two-year high in April at 5.9% year-on-year, driven mainly by transport (up 10.3%), food (up 7.5%), and utilities (up 6.5%), following recent fuel and electricity price increases.
